Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
In a shocking discovery, locals in Barasat spotted huge bundles of Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, ration cards and even PAN cards lying scattered near the railway tracks and in a dirty drain full of garbage. The area was quickly cordoned off as news spread that these identity documents might have been dumped in panic. The incident happens right when Special Investigation and Raid (SIR) teams are carrying out massive drives across West Bengal to catch fake citizenship and identity papers.
Eyewitnesses say the cards looked brand new and alleges most of them are believed to be fake because no one would throw away original documents in such a filthy place. Many feel someone tried to get rid of the evidence after hearing that police and central teams are raiding houses and checking papers door-to-door. Police have collected all the cards and started checking if they are real or forged while trying to trace who dumped them and why.
The recovery has sparked a fresh political storm. BJP leaders claims it proves their charge that illegal infiltrators are being given fake Indian identity papers with help from local ruling party workers. They demand a proper probe and say Bengal’s security is at risk. Bengal police says that they are investigating the entire matter seriously, probe underway.
